Chocolate has been a part of the culture here from the days of the Gold Rush, when Italian Immigrant and chocolatier, Domenico Ghirardelli, moved to San Francisco and founded the, now world famous, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. Over the years many high quality chocolate makers and confectioner’s have set up shop in the Bay Area, bringing us a wide array of delicious artisan chocolates and confections to choose from. More and more entrepreneurs are getting in the chocolate game, including relative new comer, Kokak , a Castro based confectioner that was founded during covid and is going strong with a gig local following today. One thing is for sure, there are plenty of beautifully packaged and delicious chocolates to choose from, when shopping for a gift for your sweet heart this Valentine’s Day. In 1852 he became the first manufacturer of high quality chocolate in the United States and he soon earned a reputation for excellence.

Ghirardelli makes special edition Valentine’s Day Collections annually in Valentine’s day themed packaging.
